Tawi Trekkers plans expedition to Stok Kangri | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 6: Tawi Trekkers Jammu and Kashmir, the premier trekking organization of the state, is going to organize a mountaineering expedition to Stok Kangri peak in Ladakh Himalaya by the end of this month. Situated towards South bank of River Indus near Leh, the 20186 ft high peak has been declared a trekking peak by Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi as not much technical expertise in mountaineering is required to climb it. "It is probably the most popular peak in India with the foreigners as well as Indian trekkers who seek to scale an over 20000ft high peak without much technical ability in mountaineering," general secretary of Tawi Trekkers, Ram Khajuria told reporters. Tawi Trekkers has planned to send a 10-member team, including girls, to unfurl the National Flag on the peak in the first week of August. The expedition is likely to be led by a top woman climber of J&K, Tsering Ladol. Ladol is only J&K girl who has scaled Mount Everest. Persons desirous of participating in the prestigious expedition, who are physically fit and have suitable trekking experience, may contact the office of Tawi Trekkers J&K at 75-76, Sarwal Colony, Jammu or contact Sonam Sidharth on Mobile No.: 9596862186 on or before July 14, a handout issued here today said. |
