Locals block road, force cavalcade of Hr Edu Minister to go back | | | Saahil Suhail
Kulgam, July 6: People from Yaripora Kulgam today protested against the alleged detention of three girls by Kulgam police and even blocked the cavalcade of Higher education minister who was returning from Degree College Kulgam after attending a function there. Locals including men, women assembled near Degree College Kulgam and started raising slogans against the police and government that halted the movement of traffic on Aharbal-Kulgam road. Mean time the cavalcade of Higher Education Minister, Ab Gani Malik, who coming from after attending a book release occasion at Degree College Kulgam reached the protest venue but his cavalcade was forced to change the route. People were protesting against the detention of three girls allegedly detained by Kulgam Police and demanding their release. "They have arrested girls when we were offering prayers and we demand justice should be done with us as they are innocent," shouted one of the protesters. Later on police dispersed the protesters by the use of force, however no one was injured in the police action Meanwhile sources in police said that three girls were picked up following an allegation of their involvement in the killing of police cop in Yaripora by unidentified militants. Sources also added that Police has released all three detainees SP Kulgam, Mohd Shafi Mir, confirmed the detention of girls and said that they were picked up only for investigation and added that police has released them after due questioning. |
