| Secy reviews functioning of Social Welfare, ICDS | | | Srinagar, February 02 Financial assistance to the tune of Rs.25.87 crore has been provided to beneficiaries under Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISS) while Rs. 7.98 have been provided under National Old Age Pension Scheme (NOAPS) in Kashmir. This was stated at officers meeting at Srinagar held to review functioning of Social Welfare and ICDS sectors under the chairmanship of Secretary Social Welfare Mr. N.K.Verma. Director Social Welfare, Executive Director Rehabilitation Council, District Social Welfare Officers, Programme Officers and other senior officers attended the meeting. The meeting was told that 1.60 lakh beneficiaries have been covered under ISSS while 40,000 persons benefited through NOAPS. Presently, 5523 ICDS centres are functioning in Kashmir and these provide supplementary nutrition to children, nursing and pregnant mothers. Another 4678 centres have come up under expansion programme. Secretary, Social Welfare called upon the officers to work with greater zeal so that the benefits of the welfare schemes percolate to the needy and weaker sections. He stressed need to activate the implementing agencies of various schemes aimed at rehabilitation of militancy victims. He said greater thrust should be laid for bringing the benefits of schemes to special categories like aged, widows and physically challenged persons.
