Wither Umar……….! | | | Bashir Assad Srinagar, July 6: Joining cause with hard-line separatist leader Sayed Ali Shah Geelani, Chairman of Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today expressed concern over government encouraging Israeli tourists to visit Kashmir. "Government should explain why it's encouraging Israelis to visit Kashmir. Muslims all over the world have problem with Israel due to its aggressive policy towards Palestine," Mirwaiz told a Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid in old city. Feeling scared by the erosion that he has been suffering in his bastion due to emotional outbursts by Geelani and also by the aggrieved rather disgruntled section of his faction of Hurriyat, Mirwaiz is making an effort to sing political notes together with the hard-liners. Mirwaiz, disturbed by the vertical and horizontal dissention within his ranks, today attempted to regain his image by voicing against the government's move to attract Israeli tourists. Factually his party and the faction of Hurriyat Conference he heads, is on ventilator given the serious difference of opinion between various constituent and also because he has miserably failed in keeping flock together. Since his faction was well poised to avail opportunity if it ever knocked at their door to play a reconciliatory role with government of India and at the same time it was perceived to be a strategic platform to take Pakistan also on board. However, for last couple of months, Mirwaiz has failed to deliver and could resist the radicals within his group particularly in the aftermath of Professor Abdul Gani Bhat's statement over "impracticability of UN Resolutions " on Kashmir. Though observers were of the view that professor Bhat's statement was based on realism and if Mirwaiz could have stood by Bhat over the statement, it would have called the attention of all the stakeholders including Pakistan and the Kashmir society and fresh debate referred to as 'out of box' thinking by the Indian premier Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pakistan General Pervez Musharaf, would certainly paved way for a meaningful engagement. But it did not happened because Mirwaiz as usual succumbed and is now finding shelter in following Geelani's way of thinking. And with this the title of 'moderates' disfigures. Some people are of the opinion that it is actually the beginning of realignment of political forces and in coming days the picture will be more clear. however the fact remains that Mirwaiz fearing isolation says what actually he does not believe in and believes what he did not say. Meanwhile Hurriyat Chairman said the leadership of the two countries should take political initiatives to resolve Kashmir. "Kashmir issue is a political issue and both the countries need to stop moving at snail's pace. They will have to formulate a process which includes Kashmiri people also."
