| Work apace on 85 irrigation schemes in Bla | | | Baramulla, February 02 Work is apace on 75 ongoing and 10 new minor irrigation schemes in Baramulla district on which Rs. 7 crore are being spend during current financial year. Three schemes under state sector are coming up at a cost of Rs. 91.40 crore and will cover a command area of 12708 hectares. This was given out today during a review meeting convened by District Development Commissioner at Baramulla. It was told that modernization of Zanigeer canal was taken up at a cost of Rs. 15.50 crore and essential feature was to increase the carrying capacity of the canal from 250 to 350 cusecs. Besides, Rafiabad High Lift Irrigation Scheme was started at a cost of Rs. 63.62 crore and would irrigate 2932 hectares of land in Rafiabad area after completion. Expenditure incurred is to the tune of Rs. 36.50 crore till November last. The Babul canal has been taken up at an estimated cost of Rs. 12.31 crore and will irrigate 2676 hectares of command area and expenditure has been registered at Rs. 2.78 crore till November 2006. It was further given out that various activities of two mechanical irrigation divisions of the district have 243 lift stations and 362 pumping units installed with 22400 Horse Power strength and have 2873 cusec lift discharge.
