Locals protest proposed check-dam in Ramnagar
7/7/2012 10:20:40 PM
Early Times Report

Udhampur, July 7 : A protest demonstration of panches, sarpanches, prominent people drawn from Badhole, Panjgrain, Dalsar, Seunti, Kathil Ganjoo and Surni panchayats was staged here today at Simbal Gali, Badhole and the protest was led by Jagmohan, sarpanch and former Block Youth Congress President wherein the villagers of as many as ten villages resented formulation of project regarding a 'check-dam' across Ghordi Nallah at Badhole whereby water for irrigation purposes shall be taken towards Bhughtrain, home-village pf local MLA. Their plea was that diverting of major portion of village water from Ghordi Nallah at Badhole shall embark a water-crisis in the area, may it be for drinking purposes, animal-feeding, irrigation as well as running of watermills. At present as many as twelve watermills are running on Ghordi Nallah in Badhole and other surrounding villages which may run dry if water is taken away by building this check-dam.. The sarpanches further resented that even local Panchayats were not taken into confidence while formulating the controversial 'check-dam' project across Ghordi Nallah at Badhole. The 'check-dam' project formulated by Irrigation Deptt. shall also play spoilsport with in-the-pipeline drinking water projects at Ghordi Nallah in Badhole whereby water shall be lifted and used for drinking purposes in University Cmapus at Dalsar and Ramein, Palarn, Sari and Johr villages. The speakers accused that already an irrigation canal from the same nallah diverts a major portion of water towards Bhughtrain, home-village of local MLA. And three supply-lines of drinking water have also been route from the same nallah.
They pleaded that they shall not tolerate a situation whereby water is taken out of Badhole and people of Badhole and surrounding villages have to suffer for water.
Among others who were present in the meeting and addressed the activists assembled there included Raj Kumar sarpanch, Hans Raj, Bikram Singh, Balram Singh, Vice-President AYCC Ramnagar, and others
