| Why waste tax payers' money? | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 7: The state government agencies have very well learnt the art of indulging in wasteful expenditure and spending money at such a juncture when it is least required.The tax payers' hard earned money is spent with the sole purpose of wasting it and very little emphasis is laid on ensuring fruitful expenditure for the benefit of the masses.One recent example is sufficient to highlight the problem though there are innumerable examples but very little effort has been made by the vigilant state government authorities to check wastage of tax payers' hard earned money.For the past couple of days the government agencies are carrying out developmental works of laying sewage pipes on busy New Plot-Janipur road, pockets of Rehari and Sarwal.
The timing of start of construction work coinciding with the rainy season has already raised many a question marks.
Secondly, the slow pace of work at the road construction site has been affecting the smooth movement of traffic but instead of expediting the work on the ground zero most of the time it is seen that only a handful of labourers are present on the site and it seems that the motive behind delaying the construction work is to wait for the monsoon season to start.Local residents in the area complained that if at all the government was interested in carrying out the repair they should have started little earlier and had not waited for the start of the monsoon season.The residents complained that storage of water in the area and unhygienic conditions can lead to health hazards but it seems no one in this government is worried about the health of the local masses.
All they want to do is spend money and earn brownie points for themselves.
A prominent citizen living in the area said, "There was no reason for the government agencies to start the work right at the advent of the monsoon season if they knew in advance that the project has been sanctioned.He said even if they would carry out the road construction work it would be of very poor quality as the frequent rains would destroy the road soon after it would be readied by them.
Another senior citizen who goes for a morning walk through the same route said that," I feel ashamed when I look at the on going work. People make fun of engineers because they display their intelligence by carrying out shabby work in rainy season and then shift the blame on the poor quality of the construction material." |
