Fierce encounter in Harkani forests | 5 LeT militants trapped | | Early Times Report kishtwar, July 7: An encounter that ensued in wee hours today in Harkani forest area of Kishtwar district continued till reports last came in. Reports said five militants owing allegiance to Lashkar-e-Toiba are trapped in the siege laid by soldiers of 11 RR following a tip off. Both sides have been exchanging heavy firing, reports said. Three of the trapped militants have been identified as Abu Akasha of Pakistan, Saifullah and Babar Hussain of Kwath village. The identity of others could not be ascertained. The Army while confirming the encounter at Kwath said that during search operation,2 AK magazines, 40 AK rounds, 6 packets of explosive, 3 detonators, one grenade, pouch, one self loading rifle and 10 meters fuse wire were recovered. The sources said that all the militants were on run, while the security forces are chasing them deep inside the forest. Fresh reinforcements have been rushed to the site of the encounter to prevent escape of the militants. It is worth mentioning that "Early Times" in its 28th June, 2012 edition reported about the regrouping of Lashkar militants in Kwath area of Kishtwar district. The search and cordon operation was stopped in view of darkness when last reports came in. |
