Patients face hardship due to overcrowded GMC lifts | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 8: Patients admitted in the Government Medical college hospital are facing numerous other hardships than battling with the scare of monkeys and dogs roaming freely in the hospital premises. During the day time when large number of visitors reach hospital premises to meet their loved ones/friends admitted in different wards they normally prefer lifts than using the steps/ramp to reach the ward. The rush of visitors inside lifts meant exclusively for the patients hardly leave any space for their attendants to push their trolley inside the lift. At times the patients along with their attendants have to wait for their turn to board the lift. The problem is aggravated during the visiting hours and fresh set of patients being shifted in to the wards are left with no choice but to bear the brunt of adverse weather conditions. The hospital authorities instead of addressing the long pending issue of patients have completely left the management of the lifts totally at the disposal of general public and not a single security guard or any other personnel has been stationed near at least one of the lift to ensure smooth passage of patients while coming in and out of the hospital wards . Sharing their concern a relative of the patient admitted in the surgery ward locate don fifth floor said, it is the duty of the hospital authorities to accord top priority to the welfare of the patients but in GMC the reverse is happening. Despite strict instructions from the senior doctors, nursing staff the attendants looking after the patients have to compromise and shift the patients via ramp or after waiting for too long virtually pleading before the common visitors to allow patients first inside the lift. On many occasions when lift system breaks down the patients have no other option but to use hospital ramp. |
