Congress not to accept NC demand for sidelining Soz
7/9/2012 1:16:06 AM
early times report
Jammu, July 8:-The National Conference leadership is totally opposed to any plan of the Congress led UPA Government to nominate the PCC Chief,Saif-ud-Din Soz,as a candidate for the vicepresident's post.
Party sources said that the NC leadership has been waitting for the last five to six years for ecuring presidential or vicepresidential berth for the party Chief,Dr Farooq Abdullah. They said that so far no political leader of any eminent public figure from
Jammu and Kashmir has been elevated to the post of President or vicepresident of India.
According to the party sources the NC leadership may be forced to review its alliance with the Congress in general and its power sharing with the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir in particular.
Reports said that the Congress high command is not yet in favour of snapping its ties with the National Conference which with three members in the Lok Sabha and two in the Rajya Sabha besids 28 MLAs in the state Assembly could prove of much help to the Congress fielded candidate,Pranab Mukherjee during the ensuing presidential election.
According to these reports,if the Congress high command was left with no other alternative but to nominate Farooq Abdullah for the vicepresident's post in that case Saif-ud-Din Soz,who is a member of
the Rajya Sabha, may be inducted in the union cabinet.
In any case Soz is unlikely to be relegatd to the background.Congress circles said that in case Soz wa neither inducted in the union cabinet nor nominated for the vicepr esident's post he may be reappointed as PCC Chief or may be considered for some gubernatorial assignment.
The Congress high command is said to be quite satisfied with the role Soz has been playing as head of the PCC in keeping the party up and kicking despite internal dissensions. As such the Congress high command may not agree with the NC leadership's bid to sideline Soz.
