Omar acts as Jamaat's spokesperson | | | early times report Jammu, July 8: Chief minister Omar Abdullah has strangely come to the rescue of Jamaat-e-Islami for its diktat when even local Kashmiri have criticized and BJP had called for taking such organizations with heavy hand. Omar had on Saturday said that Jamaat hadnt' said anything like that (issuing dress code diktat to tourists) but it's being blown out of proportion in the media. The CM acted as spokesperson of Jamaat than as a head of the State, whose job is to ensure that writ of the land rules rather than diktat of some lunatic fringe elements and organization. The fact is that Jamaat was forced to make some retraction only after strong local protest especially from the ones connected with tourism. Omar should have rather issued statement that government will not allow such diktats to work and in the same line should have added that such statements, which have failed to work in the past, only goes against the interest of local, which includes Jammu region as many people from here are also beneficiary of the tourism. The diktat of Jamaat comes close to the statement of hardline separatist leader Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani opposing settlement of migrated Kashmiri Pandits in special colonies in Kashmir. The two are not isolated incidents but are connected and there is definite pattern to it. These have come when valley is witnessing huge inflow of tourists. The presence of tourists does take away the bogey of 'Kashmir issue' from the centre stage and it's this which is not to the liking of tourists. It's in line with this thinking that so-called moderate separatists leader Mirwaiz Umar had expressed concern over the Israeli's tourists in the valley. Clubbed together these three statements have one common undertone: radicalization of Kashmir. The job of the CM was to read between the lines and taken on these elements with heavy hands rather than just posting on twitter including blackened face of a separatists leader. It will go against the credentials against the Omar, as he himself has in the past questioned the Accession of J&K and had time and again said Kashmir issue is more than holding elections or arrival of tourists.
