| LeT Militants arrested in Sopore | | |
Srinagar, February 02
In a successful operation, Sopore Police has arrested two LeT Militants wanted in number of militancy related incidents.
Two LeT militants namely Mohammad Rafiq Zaqi @ Janbaz, son of Mohammad Sultan Zaqi, resident of Baba Yousuf Sopore and Sajad Ahmad Daga, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Daga, resident of Khushal Mattoo Sopore have been apprehended by Sopore Police.
Both the militants were wanted in several militant activities. Rafiq Zaqi @ Janbaz is a category “C” militant and is one the Salfi group members of LeT. Pertinent to mention here is that Salfi Group Commander was eliminated on 1st of January, this year
The arrested militants had created an atmosphere of fear in Sopore town and were motivating youth for terrorism. Numbers of grenade and IED blasts have been carried out by them in Sopore town and its periphery, during the summer of 2006. Their involvement in the cases of civilian slaughter and beheading is also being investigated.
Non Militancy related incidents
01 Kilogram Heroin, 1900 liters K. oil recovered by Kupwara Police
Srinagar, February 02: Kupwara police has recovered 1900 liters of Kerosene oil and one Kilogram of Heroine from two different places in Kupwara.
Acting on specific information, Police Station Trehgam recovered 1900 liters of K. oil / HSD from Mohd Shafi Lone S/o Mohd Yousuf R/o Trehgam Kupwara. The Oil was meant for black marketeering. Police has registered a Case FIR No. 09/2007 in this regard.
Meanwhile, Police Station Kupwara recovered on Kilogram Heroin from Khursheed Ahmad Mir S/o Gh. Hassan and Bashir Ahmad Mir S/o Gh. Mohiudin Mir R’s/o Bathergam. The duo has been arrested and Case registered in police station Kupwara, in this regard.
Charas recovered in Handwara from Tripura resident
Srinagar, February 02: Handwara Police has recovered One kilogram of Charas and arrested one person from Aggartala Tripura, in this connection at Chogul Handwara.
During a routine checking of vehicles at Kultroora, under the jurisdiction of Police Post Chogul, Police recovered one Kilogram of Charas from the possession of one Mohammed Saleem Sheikh s/o Gh. Qadir R/O Aggartala Tripura. Police has registered a case in this regard.
Driver dies in Tipper accident, three trucks collide on NHW
Srinagar, February 02: While as a Tipper driver has died in a road accident in Baramulla, three trucks collided with each other on the National Highway at Qazigund.
A Tipper bearing registration No. JK02F/4735 turned turtle at Drangbal Baramulla resulting injuries to Tipper driver Ab. Rashid Dar S/o Gh. Ahmad R/o Chaka Baramulla, who later on succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Three Trucks bearing Registration No, s: JK025/1077, JK02R/4355 and JK02F/7327 coming from Jammu to Srinagar collided with each other on National Highway near Zadora crossing, under the jurisdiction of police station Qazigund. One person identified as Gurmeet Singh S/o Sunth Singh R/o Batote was injured in the accident, who has been hospitalized in SKIMS Soura. While the Drivers of the vehicles absconded from the spot, police has registered a Case in this regard.
Fire Incidents: Fire broke out due to electric short circuit in the house of Farooq Ahmad Khan s/o Ab. Rashid Khan R/o Nilsar Chandoosa, which was totally gutted in the incident
