Gupta aggreived over high death toll of Amarnath pilgrims | | | early times report Jammu, July 9: The former Union Minister and MLA, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has expressed his grief and anguish over the death of about 50 pilgrims of Swami Amarnath ji in the first fortnight after the start of this annual pilgrimage, This , he said, speaks volumes about the arrangements made for the safety and welfare of the devotees. Prof. Gupta said that this pilgrimage is of great importance, both as that of being of a national nature as also a great filing to the pilgrimage tourism of the State. But it was unfortunate that certain elements in Kashmir have been trying to create hurdles for about two decades now in the conduct of this holy affair. In the situation it was the major duty of the State authorities and also that of the Shrine Board to look after the well being of the pilgrims. But the manner in which the deaths are taking place is a matter of serious concern and all this indicate that there are many flaws in performing the duties by the State to ensure safety and proper medical aid to the devotees who come here for a pilgrimage but die with nobody's responsibility. This is a sad situation which must be looked into to save more precious lives, he added and stressed for an inquiry into the entire episode of mounting toll of deaths without being given due attention by the concerned to manage the affairs.
