| Income Tax raids hotels, shops in Katra | | |
UDHAMPUR | FEB 2 A joint team of Income Tax Department from Punjab, Srinagar and Udhampur today conducted secret raids at Katra and Patnitop with out the help of civil administration and police of the area. Raids were conducted at five different establishments owned by prominent persons in the tourist town of Katra. Incriminating documents and related material was unearthed by the IT sleuths. The special raids were made at the establishments of five different persons. The first raid was conducted at Subash Hotels in Katra and Patnitop. The raids were also made in the home of and dry fruit shops of one Subash, who is the owner of the above said hotels. The second target of the raids was Ram Babu Dubey, a tansporter by profession and he also owns guest houses in Katra. Likewise the raids were made at a Shawl Emporium and Cosmetics shop of Ashu Mangotra in Katra. He is an influential local Congress leader and a contractor of Pithoos. Similarly raid was also conducted in the home and office of a “Pujary”, who is also contractor of VIP Pithos. It is to mention here that the contract of Pithoos is allotted by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board against the investment of 2-3 crore rupees. The raids were also conducted in the home of Balwan Singh in Katra, who is a Sarpanch and a contactor of Pithoos. When contacted over the phone Income Tax Commissioner Varinder Singh denied to say any thing about the raids.
