Social activists and anthropologist Ram Nath Prabhakar remembered | | | early times report jammu, July 9: The Management and Inmates of Home for the Aged & Infirm, Amphalla, Jammu today remembering its founder Ram Nath Prabhakar on his celebrated 112th Birth Anniversary performed religious rituals this morning. Speaking on the occasion Vice President, Prof (Dr) Vidya Nath Gupta former Head of Hindi Department Jammu University and ID Soni State Commissioner for Scouts and Guides paid rich tributes to Prabhakar who retired as Head Master and then devoted his life in service of the poor, aged destitute and infirm members of the Society. They recalled that the said Institution was established on 8th June, 1964 with mere one room on a piece of land obtained on lease from Ved Mandir Committee. Thereafter the Home formally got registered as a Society on 20th February, 1965, and now has emerged as a Premier Centre in the State for service to the old and infirm persons. Speakers said that Home now has two full fledged buildings facing each other across the road link from Ambphalla Chowk to Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Charitable Hospital via Goashala, has capacity to accommodate around one hundred aged persons. Presently it houses 60 inmates including 23 females. "The Home has rendered free useful services for the last forty eight years to scores of poor, helpless, destitute aged and infirm members of the society irrespective of their caste, creed, religion sex or region while adhering to motto "Nar Seva is Narayan Seva", they said. A Recreation Centre for Senior Citizens has also been set up in Home which provides free reading material, recreational and entertainment facilities where they can interact among themselves and with inmates of the Home as well. Earlier the management of Home distributed clothes among the inmates and cash incentive to each worker as well as Brochure covering brief history, aims and functioning of the Home in service of aged helpless/destitute members of society was also released on this occasion. The celebrations concluded by serving lunch to the invitees with inmates. Dwarka Nath Gupta, Ex IAS President and Er Vijay Bhagotra is Honorary Secretary of the Home too were present on the occasion. |
