Cops conniving with anti national elements....? | One more case of arms disappearance in Doda | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 9: It may sound baffling but it is true that the arms and ammunition meant for beefing up the internal security and strengthening armoury of J&K police in militancy infested areas of the State are landing into the hands of terrorists as two fresh cases of disappearance of police weapons in district Doda have allegedly been reported recently. According to reliable sources, some police personnel deputed at District Police Line (DPL), Doda in acting connivance with anti-national elements stole the weapons and exported the same to the militants. Sources said, "Taking cognizance of the mysterious disappearance of weapons from DPL, Doda, the police initiated an investigation and nabbed two Special Police Officers (SPOs) identified as Saif Ali and Ramzan," "A case against the two SPOs has been registered at Police Station Doda and the accused duo has been terminated from the services," they added. Sources further said that Saif Ali sold 1600 live cartridges and a box to keep them was sold to a scraper on whose revelation Saif and Ramzan were arrested. This is not an isolated case of theft of weapons as DPL, Doda has earned the dubious distinction of coming across such situations on few occasions in the recent past. While 1700 live cartridges of AK-47 were allegedly stolen from DPL, Doda and later sold to militants by one Devender Kumar alias DK who is serving judicial custody at Kot Bhalwal jail here. Similarly, some time back, an AK-47 was reportedly went missing from DPL, Doda for which the police authorities have ordered an inquiry against an Assistant Sub Inspector and a Head Constable. These incidents are more than enough to prove that there are certainly some elements inside DPL Doda who have ill intentions and they practice it brazenly and regularly. "Two years back an AK-47 was sold by Head Constable Hakim Singh and Chattar Singh to a SPO, that too at a meagre amount of Rs 900, which stands testimony to the fact that there is open pilferage of weapons in DPL, Doda," sources said adding that the then SSP Doda ordered departmental inquiry into the incident. After conducting the inquiry, the authorities ordered termination of Chattar Singh and SPO; however, Hakim Singh was let off. |
