Kamaal counters BJP, Jaitley on Art 370 | Says special status endorsed by Parliament | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 9: The National Conference additional general secretary, Dr Mustafa Kamaal is conspicuous in the winter capital by his hard hitting political statements. He is on a bashing spree against BJP and its stalwart Arun Jaitley, who is in town, for latter's recent utterances on article 370 and 1952 Delhi Agreement. What makes Kamaal's stand different this time and conspicuous is that instead of taking on its alliance partner Congress, he has rather defended it and its stalwart Late Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru and hit out at BJP and its leaders. In what could be seen as changing the line of attack, Kamaal at the party conventions at various places in Vijaypur and Samba targeted Arun Jaitley for what he stated a day ago on Jammu Kashmir's special status and held Pandit Nehru responsible for the Kashmir problem. Kamaal, who usually makes harsh and bold statements against its own alliance partner Congress for diluting special status of the State, this time has lashed out at BJP leader for terming the Delhi Agreement as 'ill conceived'. The NC leader has even tried to provoke BJP by questioning the role of its stalwart Late Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, contending that both these provisions were incorporated by the will of both the Houses of Parliament when Mukherjee was a member of Lok Sabha and Industries Minister in Pandit Nehru's Cabinet. The point made by Kamaal in the statements today is that whatever JK was given at that time was endorsed by people of India through their representatives. Kamaal has in fact gone a step further stating it was not creation of Pandit Nehru but the endorsed by the entire country, While this is some slight deviation of attacking Congress all the time and holding it responsible for everything wrong in Kashmir, Kamaal's softened stand towards Congress is being seen as primarily on two accounts. One to counter the fresh statement of BJP and make some political points in favour of NC and secondly , to avoid embarrassment to its alliance partner, which he has been doing at regular intervals and for which he has had to pay some price in the past from the party high command. The core point for NC leadership, as always, hovers around what he contended that these 'solemn commitments by the people of India through their representatives in the first elected Parliament of India was unilaterally eroded in a systematic manner', something which he terms as a treachery committed against the people of JK State. Kamaal today said this is the root cause of alienation of the people of J&K from the Indian mainstream and the high point of his statement in the conventions is that 'it was high time New Delhi made up for past blunders and wins the hearts of the people by accepting the recommendations of the Sagheer working group on Center - State relations. |
