Congress wants to go with PDP: Kamaal | `Sagheer report was tampered' | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 9: Even as the Congress leadership urged its coalition partner, National Conference to ensure an end to Kamaal, tirade against them, the additional general secretary issued yet another harsh statement today. "The Congress party is pressurizing NC as they (Congress) were inclined towards PDP. They have an alternative available and want to go with PDP", he said while talking to a local news agency. Kamaal refused to accept any accord which was reached between Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and Indira Gandhi in 1975. "Which accord are you talking about? How did they (Congress leaders) conclude that an accord was signed?", asked Kamaal. However, there was an understanding reached between Sheikh and Indira Gandhi in 1975 which was based on deliberations between Mirza Afzal Beigh and G. Parthasarthy", he added. He said the understanding was reached to review all the Central laws extended to the State from 1953 onwards by the then "puppet Governments". The agreement was never signed by the two leaders, he added. Kamaal said the accord was never finalized or signed by Sheikh and Gandhi. "If there was an accord, why was it not presented to the Cabinet or the Assembly? Someone had to sign it or the Cabinet or Assembly should have ratified it", he said. Mustafa said the Congress party had buried even what he called "Beigh-Parthasarthy accord". "They buried it in 1977 by appointing Mufti Mohammad Syeed as the Leader of the House", he said adding late Mir Qasim had in his biography negated the existence or signing of the accord. The NC Additional General Secretary said the Congress was trying to show down the National Conference by issuing statements against it. "They are trying to de-mean and humiliate us. Their only aim is to weaken us", he said. Reacting to Taj Mohiuddin's statement where he had called autonomy as a closed chapter, the NC leader said autonomy was the only viable solution to the issue. "It might be Taj Saheb's wish", he said asking why the Congress members had voted for autonomy resolution in the State Assembly. "If it was a closed chapter, why was Karan Singh made the chairman of the autonomy committee in 1999? Why was Balraj Puri its member", he asked. Kamaal said the interlocutors of GoI and the Justice Sagheer Working Group strengthen the case of autonomy. He said the Congress party was misleading people of the State by hiding realities. Dr Kamaal said the Justice Sagheer report has been tampered with. "Why was it held back for so long? Late Justice Sagheer was himself pressurized and suppressed for very long time", he said. He also alleged the Central Government of practicing double standards. He was reacting to the statement of PHE Minister, Taj Mohiuddin where he had said the Justice Sagheer WG did not give any recommendation on its own. When asked if his statements can result in discord between the coalition partners and destabilize the coalition, the firebrand NC leader asked "When was stability there"? Saying stability was the compulsion of those sitting in Chair. "Kissa kursi ka hai", he said "They should not give wrong statements, misrepresent facts, we will also stop talking", he said adding they (NC) are bound to defend their leader late Sheikh Abdullah when he is not there to defend himself. "They have been making baseless allegations and wrong statements against Sheikh Sahab right since 75. We are here to defend him when he is not here to defend himself", he said. Refusing to react to the statement of State Congress general secretary Ravinder Sharma made earlier today, Kamaal said he does not accept him (Sharma) as a leader. "All Congress people want to be leaders. There are no workers there", he said When asked whether his statements were against the interest of his party or amount to indiscipline, Kamaal said people will decide that. "Party is connected to people and people know what is what", he retorted. |
