Minister under scanner for sending briefcases to Jammu | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 9: A senior Cabinet Minister of Omar Abdullah's Government has come under scanner of security and intelligence sleuths on account of sending cash-filled briefcases through some private airlines from Srinagar to Jammu. In the last two months, the Minister has sent briefcases filled with cash at least four times before he himself traveled to Jammu in following flights. Informed sources revealed to Early Times that a senior Minister of Omar Abdullah's Cabinet had come under surveillance of security and intelligence sleuths after he was found to have sent cash-filled briefcases from Srinagar Airport to Jammu Airport through the 'Rush Tag' of a some private airlines. Invariably, the Minister has been found to be traveling to Jammu in a following flight. According to these sources, PSOs of the Minister have carried the briefcases from his Srinagar residence to Srinagar Airport in a security vehicle after each time getting the vehicle's number enlisted in 'Zullo' category. This is the security call sign for the Government vehicles which are supposed to be permitted towards the Terminal building without checking of the carriage, luggage and physical frisking of the passenger. J&K Police and CRPF guards at the outer entrance have allowed in such vehicles upon simply tallying their registration numbers with a list received from the airport Control Room. However, the contents of the briefcases could not be concealed as the containers passed through the X-Ray scanning systems of respective airlines at the Terminal building. It is here that the operators noticed that the briefcases were packed to capacity with currency notes. However, the escorting PSO returned every time after managing transportation of the briefcases through 'Rush Tag' of the airlines. These particular consignments are not mixed with cabin or registered baggage and are necessarily carried by the airline staff separately. It has been observed that another carrier collected the same briefcases at Jammu airport and left for the Minister's house. Interestingly, each time the Minister has been found to have traveled from Srinagar to Jammu in a following flight. Sources said that, as usual, the airlines staff at the X-Ray machine have recorded that the briefcases scanned were filled with cash. However, the staff does not share details about the contents found with anybody. Sources refused to identify the Minister but said that until recently he carried the image of a meticulously clean politician with an intellectual bent of mind. |
