7/10/2012 11:17:54 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
BHADERWAH, July 10: Despite putting hectic efforts for the last two years to seek the repair work of 2 km long Bhaderwah-Sartingal road stretch, the people of the area are still waiting for its restoration. The dilapidated condition of Bhaderwah-Sartingal road is a big cause of inconvenience to the residents.
"For two years now we are moving from pillar to post… we have approached almost all the officials in order to get the road repaired. But so far nothing has been done," the locals said. According to locals, the road stretch of 2 kms gets waterlogged during rainfall making walk down the streets difficult due to the negligence of the contractor, who is also a Sarpanch.
"During rainfalls we face many problems. We are not able to venture out of our houses due to slippery road conditions. I fail to understand what these officials are doing, if they are not able to macadamize the roads?" a resident flanked by others, argued.
Not only rains days but the sunny days too bring problems along by triggering billows of dust mostly at Sungli village .Villagers alleged that contractor working on the road is using sub standard material in all Brest wills .
"Most of the people living along the road are facing acute chest infections, which the doctors attribute to dusty road conditions," the locals said.
The bad roads have also hit the business of shopkeepers along the dusty bumpy tracks.
"For last two years, we have hardly earned anything, as customers don't prefer to do shopping here because of the bad roads," a shopkeeper complained.
They said ferrying to stocks was also a problem due to the dilapidated roads.
Incharge National Building Construction Corporation, Rafiq Ahmad said: "We've completed our work a year ago."
"Our only mandate was to lay the sewerage pipes and complete the work of manholes and we have completed both. We are not concerned with the macadamization of roads," he said. People also alleged that PWD department is also shielding the said contractor, the reasons best known to them, people added.
