Early Times Report
Poonch, July 10: The Panches and Sarpanches today threatened state wide agitation incase the government failed to empower them within a month. They registered strong protest at village Khanetar where an awareness camp had been organized by the district administration. The camp was scheduled to be addressed by MP Madan Lal and Bashir Naz, Vice Chairman G&B Advisory Board.
Fed up with the `irrelevant' awareness camps and hollow speeches of political leaders, Sarpanch ,Panchs and local villagers of Khaneter boycotted the scheduled Awareness camp at khaneter today. When the news of boycott reached the Chief guests they directed the Officers of District administration to conduct the proceedings inside the Dak Bunglow.
When the concerned officers reached there, sarpanchs and Panchs along with the local villagers started shouting slogans against MP Madan Lal and Bashir Naaz. They demanded fulfillment of promises made to them.
They alleged that the leaders make promises every time the visit the area. They alleged that the duo already visited Khanetar many times but failed to fulfill promises made by them in past.
They alleged that people had lost faith in the functioning of government.
The Sarpanches and Panches alleged that Panchayat elections brought hopes of peoples' empowerment at the grassroots level, but government failed to empower the panchayats. They also said that delay in empowering panchayats may prove dangerous for the state. They threatened agitation incase the panchayats were not empowered within a month.
