HM top commander killed in central Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 10 : A top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) was killed by security forces in a fierce encounter in the central Kashmir district of Ganderbal. A defence ministry spokesperson Lt Colonel J S Brar said troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and state police launched a joint operation in a Ganderbal area of the central Kashmir following a tip-off about the presence of militants there. However, when the troops were moving towards a particular area, militants opened fire. The cordon around the particular area was further tightened and those present were taken to safer places.The militants continued firing when asked to surrender, he said, adding troops retaliated and in the fierce gun battle a militant was killed.The slain militant was identified as one Ghulam Nabi, a self-styled District Commander of HM, who was involved in a number of militancy related incidents in the Kashmir valley. |
