Army gives enough sign against AFSPA revocation | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 10: ET stands vindicated with the recent statement of Army that there will not put troops pull out from the valley clearly implying that it's in no mood to oblige State Government by giving its assent on even partial revocation of AFSPA. ET had first reported that Army has turned down the request of the Omar Abdullah for partial revocation of Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) from two districts of Jammu and Srinagar. The denial of the Army about troops pull out and adding that it wasn't even under consideration shows that Army doesn't want to give away the advantage it has achieved after years of relentless pressure on terrorists and also by giving sacrifices. The media reports partial revocation of AFSPA then followed about troops pull out were seen as an attempt by some vested interests to put pressure on the new Army chief Gen Bikram Singh to consider demand of AFSPA revocation and also to build public perception in its favour, which they have failed to do so as Army has not budged an inch from its stand. General Singh by saying that he has shed his blood in the valley has categorically and clearly send the message across that blood of security personnels would not be allowed to go waste by giving into political gimmicks of political parties thus by going interests of the Army, which he heads. The statement of the Army that any troops reduction could affect anti-insurgency operations clearly reflect the thinking of the Army that even if the claims of so-called peace by politicians especially by CM are to be believed any misadventure here could have long term repercussions which it can ill afford. The statement of Army clubbed together with the Chief's view should be enough indication to the State Government to stop raising its bogey again for its short and petty political gains. Omar Abdullah had in the past that he fails to understand the logic of Army against his proposal for troops reduction. This statement of the Army based on sound logics will make him understand the logic of the Army and its chief and can help him in seeing the things in right, nationalistic and rational perspective. |
