| Consumers in J&K worried over dismal performance of BSNL, shift to private agencies | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 10: The dismal performance of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) in J&K has become cause of concern for consumers. The callousness of the Department has led problems of the consumers dependent on BSNL only.
What is adding to the worries of consumers most that consumers dependent on private networking like Airtel, Aircel, Vodafone, Tata Photon etc. have no such problems which the consumers of BSNL face. In the same vicinity a BSNL mobile will not function due to network problem while there will be no problem to the mobile phone consumers having connections of private agencies.
The poor networking in BSNL is not a problem in remote areas but in Jammu city as well and people term it a big nexus between the BSNL authorities and private players in the field, said Vimal Gupta a social activist. He said the authorities are in league with the private players getting hefty commission from these agencies to help them in improving their business. Otherwise what is the reason that in the same locality the BSNL mobile will not function properly.
Gupta said in the same family if three members are having different connections of three mobile organizations two private and one BSNL, the consumers dependent on private organizations are having no problem of networking and they can easily talk without any problem while the BSNL networking is poor and a person has to cry louder so that he is audible by the person on opposite side.
He said often a consumer has to redial number of times for conveying his message to the person who is on opposite end and for a single call he has to make eight to ten calls to convey his message due to poor functioning of BSNL.
Recently in Mendhar area the consumers came to streets to protest against the dismal performance of the BSNL and hapless and poor consumers protested for hours tighter. They have even the complaints against the BSNL local exchange which is alleged is not functioning properly, said Nazki a local PDP activist.
He said the poor functioning of the BSNL has become a headache for the consumers in far-flung areas of Poonch and Rajouri districts.
The problem is not confined to far of places but in Jammu city and its outskirts, said Omi Khajuria former Corporator and BJP leader. He said there is no proper networking in the areas of Barnai, Damana and Nagbani and despite repeated pleas to BSNL authorities no headway has been made to settle the problem. This has forced the hundreds of consumers to surrender BSNL connections and shift to private companies, he added.
Khajuria said he apprehends a big conspiracy by BSNL authorities to help the private players to gain more field and increase the business in J&K at the cost of BSNL. He said the land line connections in various areas are not properly functioning and after every two days people face the problems of disconnection.
Despite filing of complaints with the BSNL no action is taken to remove the fault. The consumer while registering his complaint is asked that within a day the fault will be removed, which actually is never removed.
Khajuria in an appeal has sought the attention of Union Communication Minister towards the issue and urged him to come to the rescue of BSNL consumers in the State. |
