3 Pak-trained militants held in Kupwara | | | Early Times report SRINAGAR, July 11 : Three Pakistan-trained militants were today arrested after they infiltrated into this side from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in Kupwara district. Official sources said a joint naka was established by the Srinagar and Handwara police at Kulangam, Handwara in Kupwara. During the checking, three militants-Naseer Ahmad Qureshi alias Shah Baz, Farooq Ahmad alias Abid and Mohammad Yousuf alias Khalid all residents of Handwara-were arrested. These militants had gone to the PoK in 1990s and returned after receiving arms and ammunition training there. How the militants managed to reach Handwara after crossing several check points, including five-km-long border belt, was yet to be ascertained. However, no arms and ammunition were recovered from them, they said. A police spokesman said a case was registered against the militants. The government had last year announced to rehabilitate the militants in the PoK if they return and lead a peaceful life in Kashmir. More than 100 militants, along with their families, have since returned, mostly via Nepal, and later surrendered here before police and other security agencies. (AGENCIES). |
