| International trade between sovereign nations not tiny states | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 11: The assertion by PoK traders that cross LoC trade between J&K and PoK is not about India and Pakistan has clear under tone that traders, especially from Kashmir, want to develop this as an economic zone independent of India and Pakistan.
It is in line with the four point proposal of former Pak President Gen Pervez Musharraf which didn't see much light because of the resistance by the Indian government.
Cross LoC trade was started as giving relief to pent up feelings across the broders more so in parts of the Kashmir which had rosy picture of other part of the divided State. These feelings were projected and pumped by Kashmir based politicians first by so called mainstream politicians then by the separatists.
The waiving of green flag and carrying salt in hand during public rallies by late Mirza Afzal Beigh, a close confidant of late Sheikh Abdullah is a case in point which deliberately changed the political discourse in Valley taking it away from India and keeping them in state of delusion for much period.
The trade was aimed at shattering this delusion. It was never aimed at making it an international trade which only can be carried out by two sovereign nations: India and Pakistan.
J&K, like another part of the country, can't enter into an international trade on its own, as it is also governed by the law of the land and writ of country runs here.
Traders, which are backed by a people with definite anti-India set mind, are missing the point that trade was to be carried of the local productions. The list prepared by at that is clear reflection of it.
The things which are not produced here can be traded through international check points like : Wagah, from where the trade between two nation is throbbing much to the interest of both sides of the Punjab.
Even though both parts of Punjab across the border are benefitting from mutually benefit trade, it was never said that it is aimed at unification of the two sides and it will be independent of India and Pakistan.
In the free Euro zone, which is often cited as an argument, the trade is carried out between sovereign nation and not states., which are governed by the nations.
These kind of arguments are to made to keep alive the bogey of Kashmir independent, as terrorism and separatism has failed to achieve the result and now economy is the new found bogey and its for reason even separatists are calling for economy development. |
