Corruption rampant in coalition: PDP | Resign on moral grounds, Balbir tells Lal | | early times report Jammu, July 12: Taking strong exception of serious corruption charges against Minister of State for Cooperative Dr Manmohan Lal, General Secretary of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Thakur Balbir Singh today demanded his resignation on moral grounds. In a statement issued here today, Thakur regretted that serious charges of corruption had been levelled against Dr Manmohar Lal. "He should resign on moral grounds to facilitate proper inquiry into the charges against him", he said. Singh said that after exposure of the recent scams in cooperative sector, the Minister has been exposed. "He has crossed all limits and brazenly undermined sanctity of cooperative institutions by treating them as his personal property", he added. The PDP general secretary said that recent expose of scams in various organizations headed by the Minister has vindicated the allegations against him. Singh said that Lal could not hoodwink the gullible masses anymore because his real face stands exposed. He said besides looting cooperative societies, the Minister has earned huge amount through illegal appointments in Jammu Central Cooperative Bank also. Taking a dig at Congress leadership for maintaining `criminal' silence over corruption charges against Lal, he said Congress leadership has been patronizing corruption. He asked the Congress leadership to clear its stand on involvement of one of its ministers in the corruption charges. He said during last three and half years one after another corruption cases have been exposing after repeated intervals but the ruling coalition has failed to keep a check on corruption practices of its ministers. He said that National Conference leadership was notorious for legalizing corruption but it is unfortunate that Congress leadership was also following footsteps of its coalition partner. Singh further said that on the one hand Manmohar Lal has been claiming that he is clear and honest but on the other hand he has approached the Court to get inquiry against him by the State Accountability Commission stayed. He said that Minister's decision to approach Court exposed his real face. |
