Cong cannot remain silent on corruption: Vakil | | | Early Times Report RAFIABAD, July 13: Congress cannot be silent on the issue of corruption and will cooperate with the coalition government headed by Omar Abdullah to fight this menace to any extent. This was stated by former Minister and Member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil while addressing series of public meeting at Rohama, Shutluwa, Panzala and Patoosa in Rafiabad. Taking a dig at the Corrupt elements, Vakil said that, "My fight is not against any individual but it is against the corruption, which is consuming vitals of our society. He said that economy and development are adversely affected besides poor are the worst sufferers of the rampant corruption. He expressed his serious concern over continuous allegations of corruption which are pouring in from almost every quarter especially in the media. He impressed upon the Government to investigate all the allegations in an impartial manner so that the faith of commons remains intact in Government and culprits are punished; besides a deterrent face of Government could be brought out to prevent corruption. He said that the menace of corruption has not only ruining our State but our country as well. He urged people to become aware of their rights and should use them in fighting the corruption at individual by utilizing provisions of RTI Act, Public Services Guarantee Act and should not accept corruption ridden administration. Appreciating the role of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who always is taking notice of corruption allegations which are coming into his notice, Vakil said, that this shows his sincerity in eradicating corruption from our state. However, he regretted that some corrupt elements in our system were not cooperating and instead are creating hurdles in fight against corruption. Vakil lauded the role of AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi, Youth- icon and Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in launching a crusade against corruption. He said that Congress party had always fought for people's rights and against corruption which is evident from the actions of Congress. Exhorting the workers to strengthen Congress, Vakil said that the only easy way for this is to serve the people whole heartedly. He said that Madam Sonia Gandhi herself refused the post of Prime Minister and instead preferred to serve the people without holding any office. He said that all party men particularly Ministers have to work hard in addressing as well as redressing the problems of the common people and they should come up to their expectations so that party gets further strengthen. Vakil was spelling out the outstanding performance of UPA Government at the Centre, led by Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Vakil said that India has shown remarkable progress in all fields and during the tenure of UPA government India is now enjoying highest recognition and importance at the global level.
