GMC goes wayward; locks up wheel chairs, trolleys | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 13: Good number of patients who visit Government Medical College Hospital find it difficult to walk on their legs due to injury, old age or poor health condition. To support these patients, over half a dozen wheel chairs and trolleys have been kept in the veranda of the Out Patient Department. But the problem is that no patient can use these wheel chairs or stretchers/trolleys as they remain stationed there, under lock and key of hospital authorities. Throughout the day when patients keep coming for consultation, they find it difficult to walk inside the hospital premises. When their attendants look around and find wheel chairs and trolleys parked inside the veranda, they normally rush towards them to tow one of the item to take their patient inside the hospital. But soon after reaching there, attendants get a rude shock as they find all of them chained along with lock. The hospital authorities could not justify why large number of wheel chairs and trolleys have been stationed in the OPD but are not being put to use. More shamefully, no one in the hospital could give satisfactory response why in first place a lock has been placed and wheel chairs have been chained despite the fact that the main gate of the OPD building is protected by the watchful eyes of the security guard. In addition a separate ring of security cover is there but out of the fear of getting misused or stolen locks has been placed on wheel chairs and trolleys and the same have been kept away from the reach of the needy patients. |
