NGO all set to turn Channi Himmat colony 'Green" | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, July 14: The Non Governmental Organization, Mother the Nature NGO in association with Urban Forestry Division (Forest Deptt) has undertaken the afforestation drive in Channi Himmat to increase 'green pockets' in the locality. According to statement the NGO in active collaboration with forest department has turned nearly one km long stretch of western slopes of Jammu bye-pass bordering Housing Colony Chhanni Himmat, as a part of the initiative of the organisation to 'turn Chhanni green.' S S Bijral (IPS), the Director General of Mother The Nature, the organisation said that realising the need to improve local area climate and general ambience, took up the matter with Chief conservator of Forests Jammu, Regional Director Social Forestry Jammu and the DFO Urban Forestry Jammu. "As a part of the initiative taken, it was decided at the joint inspection conducted with DFO Urban Forestry which will decide to plant tree saplings in grove formation, he added. He added that ornamental plants would also be planted at the base of the slopes close to the 'Green belt parks'. Meanwhile general public in the locality have lauded the initiative of the organisation 'Mother The Nature' and also the positive response of Urban Forestry Wing of the State Forest Deptt
