| Musharraf’s new belief in philosophy of non-violence worth appreciation: Azad | | | JAMMU, February 03 While appreciating Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf’s statement against role of violence and gun in Kashmir, Chief Minister Jammu and Kashmir Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that realization of this fact by Gen. Musharraf authenticates our stand which we were expressing from very beginning. He said during last 18 years abnormal presence of gun has caused bloodshed, all round destruction and disaster in the state particularly in Kashmir valley. He said now time has come for silencing the guns for ever so that atmosphere of peace and tranquility is strengthened and made permanent feature. He said that prosperity and progress of the state is mainly subservient to peace. Chief Minister was speaking to the group of media persons here today. While replying one of the questions, Mr. Azad said that it is as a result of change of mindset up of Pakistan establishment that visit of Foreign Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee yielded positive results and during coming three months series of meetings between India and Pakistan will be held to resolve various complex issues. He further said that borders were earlier roaring with cannons and bullets and now the same borders can become abode of fragrance of love and friendship. He said trade, commerce and free movement of goods through same borders will usher both sides towards progress and prosperity. Mr. Azad said all those who have real sympathy for people of Kashmir should now think in terms of peace, trade and development. Chief Minister while commenting on the arrest of SSP and Dy. SP and other police officials involved in fake encounters, said that countdown of zero tolerance in human rights violations has started. While replying to various questions on human rights violations committed during various regimes since 1990, Chief Minister said that during his first press conference immediately given after his taking over he made it categorically clear that all the actions of the security forces while fighting militants will be appreciated but at any cost human rights violations or custodial killings will never be tolerated. He said that determination in view he fully believes that strict action should follow once the facts of human rights violations come in the notice of government. While he can not speak what has been done by previous governments while fulfilling their commitments but he feels satisfied for taking strict action against violators of human rights. He said those who for their personal promotions and awards are killing innocent civilians in the name of militancy are murderers and deserve same treatment as murderers should be given. He said that he will encourage all those security personnel who are fighting with braveness and courage against militancy, because militants are enemies of nation and people particularly of Jammu and Kashmir. Chief Minister said that his government would have also chosen to hide the murder committed by few security persons but he chose to take action against them rather than shield their criminal acts. He said that not only the people of Jammu and Kashmir have liked this gesture of the government but at the national and international level our concern for protection of human rights was appreciated. Mr. Azad said that political leaders while condemning human rights violations committed by any security personnel should also condemn with same vigour and force human rights violations committed by militants as well as their savage activities. He said those leaders who are not in mainstream should also muster courage to condemn terrorists’ activities and continuous human rights violations being committed by militants. |
