Congress high command for 'status quo' in J-K till Prez, Vice Prez polls | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 14 : Following the decision of the National Conference leadership to support the UPA nominees for the Presidential and vice-presidential polls the Congress high command is believed to have suggested to its party unit in Jammu and Kashmir not to precipitate any political crisis by provoking the NC leadership to snap ties with the Congress. High placed party sources said though the Congress high command is not happy with the style of functioning of the National Conference leaders as far as handling of the coalition government's affairs with the Congress, but presently it does not want to create any situation that would force the NC leadership to snap ties with the Congress which could cast some shadow on the upcoming presidential and vice presidential election. No doubt the PDP leadership too has decided to support the UPA nominee for the 'presidential poll' the Congress does require the support from even smaller regional parties because of the fear of cross voting and on account of the unclear stand taken by the TMC chief, Mamata Banerjee. However, senior leaders belonging to the camp of loyalists in the Congress, that is headed by the PCC chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz, has suggested to the party high command to bridle the NC leaders especially Dr Mustafa Kamal, who has been taking advantage of being the brother of Dr Farooq Abdullah and uncle of Omar Abdullah, while berating the Congress for the sins it has not committed. The leaders of the state unit of the Congress want the party high command to seek a clarification from both Farooq Abdullah and Omar on reports that Mustafa's repeated fulminations against the Congress had the support from Chief Minister and Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy. Despite goading from the party high command for maintaining restraint the leaders of the state unit of the Congress continue to be quite unhappy with the style with which Chief Minister has been observing the coalition dharma. Reports said that since the NC leadership was not prepared to snap ties with the Congress, as that would force it to lose power in Jammu and Kashmir and a seat in the union cabinet, the ruling coalition in the state has survived. However, growing confrontation between the two main coalition partners is said to be the root cause for political instability, poor governance and tardy execution of various development projects. |
