Batwal Association awards meritorious students

JAMMU, July 14 : Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association today presented an 'Award of Appreciation' to a community girl, namely, Neha Kaith for obtaining 10th Position in the Secondary School Examination and 'Certificate of Appreciation' to Raj Kumar Kaith for bagging 'Distinction' in Higher Secondary Part-2 Examination. The association presented this award to the two meritorious students during a press Conference held here today. The award was jointly presented by Association President and Ex-MLA Sat Pal Lakhotra and Chief Advisor Lt Col. (Retd) Manohar Lal Kaith. They also nominated Capt Kamal Chand Kaith as President for Tehsil Akhnoor.
Thereafter, the Association members explained the main demands of the Batwal Community. They stated in 1994, the Government of India with an object to ameliorate the living standard of the Batwal Community members, laun-ched a study to assess their socio, economic and cultural life in the J&K State. The field work , as laid down by the Planning Commission, started in about forty villages of Jammu region, got completed by the end of April, 1994.
Thereafter, the then Deputy Registrar General , India visited the State and exchanged the views with the elite of Batwal Community to explore the ethnographic/anthropological back ground and other related details and also collected the Survey Report from the Directorate of Census Operations, J&K. But even after passage of eighteen years, nothing for the upliftment of the Batwal Community has been done by the Government. They urged the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to grant an 'Economic Package' in favour of the Batwal Community on the basis of its Survey Report.
Members alleged that the development works at Shahz-adpur Maratta, as proposed last year have not till date been taken up for execution by the Block Development Officer, Marh, despite the instructions of the District Development Commissioner, Jammu. They urged the Government to look into the matter. They urged the Chief Minister to personally look into the matter and have the genuine grievances of the Batwal Community members redressed at his earliest convenience. Prominent among those who participated in the Press Conference were Capt. Raj Kumar Kaith, Capt. Om Parkash Tugga, Capt. Kamal Chand Motan, Sub. Maj. Thoru Ram Mandi, Sub. Narayan Dass Bassa, Hav. Des Raj Kaith, Naib Sarpanch Ram Lal Lakhotra, Mela Ram Tugga, R.L.Kaith, Hakikat Anmol, Beli Ram Kaith, Karam Chand Mandi, Madan Raj Kaith, Tara Chand Bassa, Ravi Kumar Lakhotra, Sat Pal Kaith, Nand Lal Lakhotra, Chaman Lal Lakhotra, Bharat Bhushan Kaith and Girdhari Lal Lakhotra.
