AJKKU stages protests, demands 'Special Drought Relief' package | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 14 : Pressing for the demand for a Special Drought Relief package of Rs. 500 Crores and taking other short and long term measures to make agriculture, economically profitable activity on sustained basis, All Jammu and Kashmir Kissan Union ( AJKKU) organized Dharnas at all the block headquarters in Jammu region today. Addressing Kissan Dharnas at several places in Jammu, Chairman of AJKKU Ashok Sharma demanded that agriculture be declared as an industry with all the incentives which are available to the industrial sector for growth of agriculture on modern lines. He reiterated the demand for grant of Rs 500 Crores Special Drought Relief Package, 6 months free ration, crop and cattle insurance on government expenses and 100% substized seed, fertilizers and other agricultural inputs to the farmers who has suffered, due to long dry spell in Jammu region. Besides this he demanded the farmers should be exempted from electricity tariff for 6 months. Other demands highlighted on the occasion included Provision for free electricity and irrigation facilities, setting-up of Kissan mandies at block, tehsil, district, divisional and state level with facilities of Kissan Bhawans, minimum support price for different crops, providing revenue pass books and Kissan credit cards to all the farmers across the J&K by November 2012, reservation for the children of farmers in professional colleges & institutions and bringing small and marginal farmer under BPL category. Speakers also demanded soft loans and making available latest farming techniques and technology right at the fields of farmers to enhance agri-productivity and production. Sharma stated that the first phase of protest concluded today while the detailed programme for launching 2nd phase of protest to press for the demands of farmers would be announced shortly. The members of All Jammu Kashmir Kissan Union staged a protest under the leadrship of Dev Raj Sharma and RC Sharma at Satwari in favour of the demands of the Kissan incuding release of Rs 500 crore package for the Kissan, whose crop has been damaged,issuance of Kissan Credit Card, inssuarnce for crops and farmers. Later they submitted a memorandum to the Naib Tehsildar, Satwari, Manjeet Singh addressed to Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Chief Minister of J&K and Revenue Minister. The Naib Tehsildar politely accepted the memorandum fromthe leaders. |
