Resolve differences through dialogue: Dalai Lama
7/15/2012 12:15:38 AM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 14 : Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, who is visiting Jammu and Kashmir, said today that differences must always be resolved through dialogue.
"Mob violence will lead nowhere. Differences and disagreements should be resolved through dialogue. Mob violence can solve nothing. Instead, it can create more problems," he told a group of school children here. He described education as a very important tool to build a healthy humanity and called for introduction of moral ethics based not on religion but common sense, common experience and scientific findings.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who accompanied the spiritual leader, said: "It is after 24 years that His Holiness is here again. I remember the last time he came here, my father (Farooq Abdullah) took me to meet him.
"Much time has since passed. Our state has been through an extremely dark spell of violence. My hair has also turned grey. Things are now gradually improving and I request His Holiness to pray for permanent peace in the state," Abdullah said.
The Dalai Lama said he had known three generations of Abdullahs including the late Sheikh Abdullah, Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah.
"I also know the fourth generation Abdullahs (Omar's sons), and if I live long enough, I will see them serve the people in line with their family tradition," he said.
The Dalai Lama, who lives in India since fleeing his homeland in 1959, is on a week-long visit to Kashmir. He arrived here on Thursday.
