Aghast at statements against PHE minister, Cong assails Mustafa | Coalition (a) dharma | | Bharat Bhushan JAMMU, July 14: Against the spirit of the coalition dharma, NC MLA Mustafa Kamal and Baramulla Congress Committee (BCC) are involved in a slanging match. While Kamal allegedly said on July 8 last that Congress leader and PHE minister Taj Mohiuddin had won assembly elections from Uri constituency with the army support, BCC today strongly assailed Kamal, terming his allegation as "uncalled for, irresponsible and unfortunate". The BCC, which today met at Baramullah under the chairmanship of its district president Mir Mushtaq Nowshehri, said Kamal's statement was against the coalition dharma. The meeting said that at a time when Kamal should have been counting the achievements of the coalition government, he chose to issue the statement which was "irresponsible and detrimental to the coalition dharma". "The statement is factually incorrect," the meeting added. Taking a serious note of the Kamal's statement, Taj has already said that he would sue the NC leader. The NC leader was yet to react to it. Minor "differences" between the two had also cropped up on May 2 last when NC was said to have conveyed its "unhappiness" to Congress high command for holding a "largely attended" public rally in its voter bastion -- Ganderbal -- the home constituency of chief minister Omar Abdullah. The rally, addressed by PCC president Saifudin Soz and two Congress ministers, was attended by a sizeable number of people despite the inclement weather. It, however, did not go well with NC. Upset over the Congress meetings in its "strongholds", NC was stated to have expressed its unhappiness. In its displeasure, NC had a point when a senior party leader said that instead of working in NC voter bastions, Congress, which was its coalition partner in the state, ought to work in the assembly segments held by PDP MLAs. Holding rallies in PDP-held segments would help both NC and Congress to improve their tally in the next assembly elections, he added. What irked NC after the Congress's Ganderbal rally was the good gathering. "Several people turned up in the rally even when it was raining," a senior Congress leader said. He said the Ganderbal rally was also an answer to NC leader Mustafa Kamal's statement that "Congress has no existence in Kashmir." He said the party cadres wanted that the Congress, which was part of government in the state, should also effectively play the role of opposition.
