Early Times Report
Jammu, July 14: Even as it is abundantly clear that the principle opposition party PDP has made up its mind to support UPA nominee for Presidential polls Pranab Mukherjee on July 19, the meeting of former Chief Minister and party Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayed with the former tomorrow assumes significance politically. Mufti is slated to meet Pranab tomorrow soon after he arrives in the summer capital , ahead of his interaction with the coalition allies National Conference and Congress in J&K.
Even though Pranab Mukherjee has so far visited various states for the purpose of canvassing for the crucial elections, thrust particularly being on the ones where Congress is not in power, his visit to J&K state tomorrow assumes importance for more than one reason. One that apart from meeting the partners in power, of which Congress is major one, he would have one to one meeting with the former Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed , most likely at latter's residence . Ruling NC has already made it known that it would support UPA candidate whereas PDP had kept its cards closed , no matter it was a foregone conclusion in the political circles that PDP would not go against Congress will in this crucial matter.
However, sources said this move seen as politically wise and mature of Mufti has unnerved the main opponent NC and its leadership is more anxious about his meeting at individual level with Pranab, a close confidante of Congress High command. Sources said Mufti's decision of going with Congress choice on Presidential post has given more than clear indications that PDP Patron intends to have stronger relations with Congress, party which gave him support in 2002 in forming coalition government in the state. This is a well calculated step with 2014 on mind when both Parliamentary polls as well as Assembly polls in J&K are due.

Later in the day Pranab would meet ministers, MPs and legislators belonging to ruling allies as well as of other parties.Apart from PCC president Prof Saif-u-Din Soz, J&K incharge Congress Mohan Prakash is also scheduled to arrive in Srinagar tomorrow.
Pranab Mukherjee would interact with all who matter in the electoral college of the Presidential polls at SKICC . While J&K Panthers Party and BJP have made up their mind to vote in favour of PA Sangma, it remains to be seen whether all the independent MLAs would would follow the Congress choice. As for indepnedted candidate from Langate Engineer Abdul rahsid is concerned, he is said to have decided to vote in favour of Snagma. It is pertinent to mention that one MLA carries as many as 72 votes and one MP has 708 votes in the electoral college for this election. In that sense PDP's legislators in both the Houses carry quite significance in the polls, though number game as of now is quite favorable for Pranab.
