| Information Deptt loves carrying clerical, parochial mindset tag | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 14: The State Information Department is not only faulty on clerical account but still has to come out of parochial mindset and shed its streak of favouritism, often for petty(which though are quite substantial in monetary terms).
The department headed by none other the Chief Minister Omar Adullah is often at fault not on grammatical account but also even for basic spelling.
The department had recently released Accreditation cards to senior journalists-many of whom work for reputed national dailies. And the simple spelling of government at the top of card were spelled as: Govtnment.
Such spelling mistake in national dailies, to which it hopes to cater and keep in them loop, wouldn't have resulted in the writer of getting a strong hearing but could have even cost him his job, but that's not the case with the department.
The department assumes and continues to believe that its sole aim is to just type the statements of ministers, in some case legislators (only favoured one) and send it across the media fraternity.
The statement is just issued without giving any perspective, which takes time and usage of grey matter, and without backgrounder of the important. And strangely on this is the word".. so and so minister said that."
The word 'That' in every simple stance, seems to be invention of this department and it assumes it has copy right over it , resulting in its repeated usage in a story, where it's not needed at all as its not only grammatically wrong but it makes bad copy to read
In states across the nation, the job of the department is to provide well researched documents on issues of public interests, arts, culture and science.
It not only serve the purpose of ready reckoner but makes help in disseminating information to readers, which not only satiate their hunger for knowledge but also in building health public debate.
The State information department, which is as of now catering to about 500 state publications, has never given a thought and it appears has just abandoned its responsibility on this account.
In the name of media exchange, the department ends of hosting one or two dinners or lunch and hoping to keep them in good humur with oily food and some time with liquor.
The point, however, missed by the department that serious journalist don't attend these so-called dinner only because of this reason which reflects its seriousness.
The department had never made it a point to hold regular interaction with the head of the State and CM on regular basis as to exchange view which helps in two way traffic of ideas and posing question to them.
The department has serious job in hand which can't be attended by non-serious attitude. |
