| 4 Mega projects for tourism promotion in Jammu under implementation: Baig | | Question Hour in LA | |
SRINAGAR, AUGUST 01 – Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Muzaffar Hussain Baig, who also holds tourism portfolio, informed the Legislative Assembly today that the state government has taken up four mega projects of development of heritage centre at Mubarik Mandi, setting up of rope-way from Mubarik Mandi to Baghe-e-Bahu, development of Golf Course on the left bank of river Tawi and development of Amarnath Yatri Bhawan at Jammu. He said work on some of these ambitious projects would start soon. Mr. Baig has replying to a question by Mr. Raman Bhalla in the House today. He said that government is committed for development of Jammu City as a mega tourism spot. He said Jammu is already a major tourist destination of the State and mostly visited by the pilgrim tourists round the year. Various development projects in the city related to tourism activities are under implementation to create the requisite infrastructure, he added. Mr. Baig said the state government has asked the central government for grant of Rs. 10 crore for development of Heritage centre at Mubarik Mandi and the central government has agreed for the release of Rs. Three crore. He said in the first phase the buildings formerly housing state Public Service Commission and High Court would be renovated for which the site plan is being prepared. The Deputy Chief Minister said the state government has hired the services of M/S Rights for preparation of feasibility report of the ropeway from Mubarik Mandi to Baghe-e-Bahu. He said the report is with the state government and soon a decision would be taken on it. He said the ropeway will be build on BOOT basis. Mr. Baig said that a specious golf course spread over 1384 kanals would be developed on the left bank of river Tawi for which a major portion of land has been acquired. He said the centre has released Rs. 2 crore for acquisition of 216 kanals of private land. He said about 5000 trees are being planted by the forest department in the area to give an aesthetic look to the course. Mr. Baig said the government intents to build a specious Amarnath Yatri Bhawan at Jammu for which land has been identified. He said the acquisition process has started and the central government has released Rs. 3.92 crore for the purpose. |
