Fresh infiltration, militancy violence belies Govt claims on restoration of peace | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 15: The fresh infiltration bids across the LoC in the State during last few months and intensification of militancy violence in Kashmir Valley has belied the claims of the State and Central Governments regarding restoration of normalcy in trouble -torn State. According to sources the militancy, which remained dormant in 2011 has suddenly raised its ugly head this year again and the situation in Kashmir Valley was akin to that of 1989-90 when the terrorist violence hit the Valley. The sudden spurt of terrorist violence in Kashmir Valley and burning down of some religious shrines mysteriously in Valley for last over one month is an indication that the separatists aided and abetted by Pakistan are trying to create large scale disturbances in the Valley and disturb peace. Perturbed over the increasing number of tourists and Amarnath pilgrims visiting the Valley , the separatists and militants are hell bent to derail the peace process, sources said, adding being fully backed by Pakistan which has successfully managed to push over five dozen infiltrators inside this territory since May after the snow started melting on peaks, the extremist elements are trying to keep the pot boiling in the State by instigating the people to violence. Sources said over 70 militants belonging to Lashkar-e-Toiba, Hizbul Mujahideen and other outfits have sneaked in Valley since May and some of them have been spotted in various parts of Kashmir also during past. Already over 20 militants were active in Homeshalibug Assembly segment in South Kashmir while about 20 militants are active in Kulgam district of Kashmir valley bordering Pirpanchal range. The presence and activities of the militants have also been spotted in Handwara and Karnah area of North Kashmir bordering PoK and the militancy violence and deaths have increased this year in comparison to last year putting a question mark on claims of coalition Government over the restoration of normalcy in the State, sources added. Sources said emboldened by the fresh lease of life which militancy has got in Valley, the hardliner Hurriyat leader has started calling shots again by opposing the settlement of Kashmiri Pandits in clusters, announcing dress code for tourists etc. indicating that the hardliner Hurriyat leader and terrorists are working in complete tandem with each other. The recent killing of two police men by separatists in Kulgam district and subsequent killing of some civilians coupled with mass violence at different places in Valley reveals that terrorists are neither out nor down, sources said, adding the increasing infiltration bids across the LoC in Kashmir valley and Jammu region has posed a fresh challenge to security agencies. The sources said the Central Government is under constant pressure not to show any leniency to Omar Abdullah Government's demand on revocation of AFSPA and withdrawal of security forces as the present spurt in militancy was one of the main causes of withdrawing of security forces from various parts of State in past. Sources said Union Home Ministry has also passed directives to security agencies to remain vigilant in view of the reports that hundreds of militants are waiting across LoC to sneak and disturb peace in the State in general and Kashmir valley in particular. |
