Congress embarrasses Govt, coalition partner | 'Inadequate implementation, misuse of funds in Centrally Sponsored Schemes' | | ET Report JAMMU, July 15: Congress has embarrassed its coalition partner National Conference and the State Government by coming out openly with allegations of misuse of funds in Centrally Sponsored Schemes in the State. Manjit Singh, former Minister and Congress leader of Vijaypur Assembly constituency has alleged poor planning and siphoning off of funds for improper and inadequate implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes especially in his constituency. "The main reasons for non implementation of the Centrally schemes in letter and spirit on ground is lack of accountability on the part of concerned officers, corruption and lack of awareness among the people," the Congress leader, Manjit Singh alleged. The statement of the former Minister is seen as direct attack on the planning department that is headed by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself. It is also being seen as the inability of the Chief Minister to check corruption which is seriously affecting the developmental process in the State. Singh reiterated that the masses were being deprived of benefits of the Centrally Sponsored Schemes due to poor planning and absence of effective checks and supervision. "The Congress led UPA Government in Centre has sent huge funds to the State so that these schemes could be implemented for the benefit of the poor people, but works remained incomplete due to the poor planning and corruption," former Minister and senior Congress leader said, while addressing a huge gathering here at village Rakh Rajpur falling in Vijaypur. While Manjit's outcry has embarrassed the coalition Government, it is also seen as a befitting reply to Mustafa Kamaal's onslaught against Congress leadership. |
