Courses for maiden academic session called off owing to 'inadequate response' | Central University draws a blank | | Abodh Sharma JAMMU, July 15: Notwithstanding the struggle of the people of the region in getting it established, The Central University has drawn a blank in the maiden year of its inception by failing to start the academic courses proposed by it. A notification posted on the official website of the central university dated June 27 last reads, " the university has decided not to start courses for the academic session 2012-13 in MA Communication and Management Advertising, MA defence and strategic studies, MA international relations, MA Philosophy, MA social work and MA public administration because of inadequate response of the candidates. The fact that all the above mentioned courses are not offered in the University of Jammu, calls for serious introspection on inadequate response by the candidates for them. While many believe lack of awareness amongst the candidates could be a reason, others hold the university administration accountable for the poor response received by it. "CUJ has become abode for the retired people who have seen their prime and lack drive and initiative for such a prestigious project" said Dr. Vikas Sharma, president National Secular Forum. "In one year, the CUJ administration has failed to put in requisite ground work that could attract young graduates to seek admission in its new PG courses" he added demanding that accountability should be fixed on the administrators as to why they have not been able to start courses despite being paid hefty salaries and perks for close to a year. OSD administration CUJ Dr. PS Pathania when asked to reason out inadequate response to the mentioned courses could not give a definite response. "Cannot assign any specific reason, however, many candidates who had applied did not meet the eligibility criteria" Pathania said. Interestingly, the Central University of Kashmir, even though it started a session earlier, is successfully running courses in Masters in Information Technology, Masters in English, Masters in Convergent Journalism, Masters in Economics, Masters in Mathematics and B.A. LLB and the examination for the second and fourth semester of the above mentioned courses had started on Thursday, July 12. |
