Hakim Yasin, Tarigami, Er Rashid walkout of NC-Cong meeting Extend support to Mukherjee in separate meeting | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 15: In what can be seen as a prelude to formation of Third Front once again by some key politicians in Kashmir intended to maintain separate identity in an environment of coalition politics in the State, former Minister and PDF president Hakim Mohammad Yasin, senior leader and CPM legislator MY Tarigami and independent MLA Engineer Abdul Rashid today walked out of the meeting convened by allies of ruling coalition to register 'protest' when they did not find their names in the welcome banners for Pranab Mukherjee, UPA's nominee for upcoming Presidential polls . The banners put at the venue of meeting at SKICC mentioned in bold only the names of the ruling NC and INC members. Sources said even though the three leaders were formally invited by JKPCC president Prof Saif-u-Din Soz for attending the meeting convened for Pranab Mukherjee after his arrival in the summer capital today, there was no mention of their names, not even the word 'others' normally mentioned at such occasions when Congress seeks their help as other alliance partners. Sources said the three legislators reached the venue well in time and conveyed to JKPCC leadership that it should construed as a meeting that purely needs to be attended by the legislators and leaders of the NC and Congress and it was better for them not to be present in the meeting where their 'identity' was not mentioned. Sources said Prof Soz and some other senior Congress leaders tried to pacify and tone down the matter with some gestures of apologies and with the contention that it was done deliberately, the three politicians, two of whom (Hakim Yasin and Tarigami) are stalwarts in their own right in Kashmir's mainstream politics, asserted it was better for them as also the 'individualistic' NC and Congress to meet Pranab Mukherjee separately and convey their support to him as UPA candidate for coveted post. "We met Mukherjee and conveyed to him our support for we genuinely feel there can no other better choice than him for this prestigious post…….we could have done it in the joint meeting but since there was no mention anywhere about our presence and support to him, we deemed it proper to meet him separately......this is important to maintain our own identity but at the same time we would continue to extend support to Congress on key issues that matter…", said PDF president. The three legislators while extending support and felicitations to Mukherjee also talked briefly about the political scenario in Kashmir and expressed hope that after assuming country's highest office must understand the need for addressing political dimensions of the issue. |
