Police foils ReT, EVs march to civil Secretariat in Kashmir | | | early times report Srinagar, July 16 :Security forces today foiled a march to civil secretariat, seat of the government, by Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) and Education Volunteers (EVs) who were demanding regularisation of their services and other benefits. Dozens of ReT and EVs, who had come from different parts of the valley, were taken into preventive custody after they refused to disperse even though security forces resorted to lathicharge and used coloured water. The ReT and EVs alleged that despite completing five years of service, their employment was not regularised by the administration also depriving them of other benefits. The ReTs and EVs assembled near Exhibition ground, raising slogans in favour of their demands. A large number of security force and police personnel had been deployed in the area besides hundreds were guarding civil secretariat. However, when the ReT and EVs started their march towards civil secretariat, security forces swung into action and resorted to lathicharge, which had no impact on protestors, who continued their march. Later police used coloured water to disperse the ReT and EVs led by Teachers Forum president Abdul Qayoum Wani. Traffic on busy Airport and secretariat routes was disrupted for some time. Dozens of ReT and EVs were later bundled into police vehicles and taken to police stations.
