Circle within circle, now NC concerns over pilgrims’ deaths
7/17/2012 12:51:33 AM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 16: The recent statement from provincial president J&K National Conference Jammu urging to the medical authorities and Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) to provide and ensure medical facilities enroute to holy cave shrine seeming looks like circles within circles in NC’s politics as the remarks in the backdrop of Chief Minister recently has stated ‘we’ cannot guarantee everybody’s health particularly if one is coming in invalid health certificate.
On July 13, Omar from New Delhi remarked in the wake of death of 72 pilgrims so far while undertaking the annual pilgrimage this year. The Chief Minister was quick to point to “wrong” medical certificates being produced by the yatris during the health screening.
While National Conference provincial president in his statement expressing concerns over large number of deaths of pilgrims during Amarnath Yatra this year appealed to the medical authorities and Shri Amarnath Shrine Board authorities to provide and ensure medical facilities on both tracks upto to the Holy cave and the base camps, the Chief Minister stated on July 13: ‘On our side, we are trying to put in place a mechanism of health screening but unfortunately it seems that the health certificates that are being produced are not genuine representations of the condition of the pilgrim.”
Omar while talking to reporters in New Delhi said, “Now, with the best will in the world we cannot guarantee everybody’s health particularly if you are going to come with a health certificate that is not a genuine assessment of what your health is.”
On the contrary Rattan Lal Gupta appealed to State Government to enhance facilities by providing mobile medical teams with complete equipment and medicine be also deputed on both tracks so that such mis-happenings may not occur further.
While Omar Abdullah challenged the authenticity of health certificates of pilgrims and advised people to get “genuine health certificates”,  the remarks from Rattan Lal Gupta and National Conference workers  who performed Kar Seva during Bhandara organised by Mahant Swami Sarvaanand Sarswati of Sant Seva Ashram for the Amarnath Yatris at Railway Station Jammu, left many toeing the party stance on one issue which has left them surprised over the ‘circles within a circle’ of a mainstream party.
