Supreme Court poser exposes Government | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 16: The Supreme Court posers to the State Government on the State of medical facilities for Amarnath yatris has exposed the hollow claims of the Government that adequate facilities have been put in place for smooth conduct of yatra. The Supreme Court poser about :Whether medical/ emergency facilities exist to prevent human casualty reflects how seriously the deaths are being taken by the highest court of the land and how non-serious is the Government. The deaths were inevitable as all the along before the commencement of the yatra the only concentration of the Shrine Board was to release picture, though concocted, to the media and build an impression that yatra can't be started early. The Board had done it with the purpose as NC headed State Government was not in favour of longer duration of yatra, as demanded by Hindu organisations, but for shorter duration to appease the sentiments of a section of radicalised population and mainly to separatists. The Government in the entire duration didn't deem it fit to analyse the requirements of the medical facilities and how to improve. It just said medical certificate is necessary but didn't ponder over the fact that it can be purchased by greasing palm. Strangely, even CM Omar Abdullah himself said that yatris are performing darshan on fake medical certificates. If the CM has said it now, then it is quite logical that Board must have gone through this aspect before making it mandatory which it now seems is that it was a ploy to shift the blame on yatris rather than on administration. The Board all along had been issuing pics of heavy snow. At this point of time it released the pics of medical camps, their status and number of doctors deployed. Had this been done, it could have exposed it and fearing repercussions it concealed these facts. The Supreme Court had said: "Right to life is enshrined under Article 21 of the Constitution which embodies in itself the Right to live with dignity. The State is not only expected but is under a Constitutional command to treat every citizen with human dignity and ensure equal treatment to all. In our considered view and as demonstrated by these newspaper reports, inhuman, unsafe and undesirable conditions are prevailing at the base camps and en route to the Holy Cave." The State Government will now have a tough time in explaining if it performed its constitutional duty of saving the lives. |
