Small pawn takes charge, criticizes SASB; Top PCC ranks prefer silence | Amarnath death toll | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Kishtwar, July 17: In a distinct incident when the top Congress ranks have preferred silence over the swelling death toll of Amarnath pilgrims or some have peevishly opened up their lips but a small pawn coming to the fore front today accused the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) of failing to initiate measures to check the rising number of deaths of pilgrims en-route the cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas and demanded the resignation of the Board members. Criticizing the SASB members for completely failing to prove better facilities including the medicare to sick patient who failed to acclimatize, President Youth Congress Inderwal Mohammad Latief Mughal (Rashid) today demanded the resignation of the Board members. "As many as 84 pilgrims have died in just 21 days of the yatra this year, but the state government and the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board remain unmoved," Rashid said. While condoling the pilgrim deaths, President Youth Congress Inderwal, Rashid said that the incidents revealed the "inefficiency and mismanagement" by the Shrine board in organizing the yatra and thus SASB members must resign for failing to protect the pilgrims. PYC Leaders taking lead also pointed out that before the yatra, Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had also asked the SASB to ensure adequate health cover for yatris, but it is sad that no action was initiated in this regard and the grim picture is in front of us right now. His remarks came when the top raking Congress leadership has preferred to remain silent or to do mere lip service and daring to go beyond the lines of coalition dharma or reasons better known to them.
