MLC Jugal expresses concern over increasing causualities | Amarnath Death Toll | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 17: Expressing deep concern over large number of deaths of Amarnath pilgrims performing the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, the senior Congress leader and Member Legislative Council (MLC) Jugal Kishore today demanded a thorough inquiry into the real causes of the causalities. In a press statement issued here today, MLC Jugal Kishore said that last year also more than hundred pilgrims lost their precious lives and this year also the toll is mounting at a rapid speed which is quite worrisome. "The large scale deaths of Amarnath pilgrims is really a serious matter and needed to be inquired in depth so that the exact reasons could be known," Jugal Kishore said. "It is really painful and shocking to know that death toll of Amaranth pilgrims is increasing with each passing day despite of the fact that the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) and State Government have claimed to made adequate arrangements and measures to check such occurrences," he added. He urged the SASB and state health department authorities to provide and ensure adequate medical facilities on base camps of Nunwan and Baltal as well as both the yatra tracks upto to the Holy cave shrine so that the yatris' lives could be saved. MLC further appealed to the authorities concerned that mobile medical teams with complete equipments and medicines also be deputed on both tracks so that no precious life is lost during the remaining yatra period. Jugal Kishore said that going by the experiences of growing number of deaths in the ongoing yatra as well as last year's pilgrimage, the SASB should take necessary steps in formulating a strategy to avoid repetition of such incidents in future. |
