PDP renews ties with Cong by supporting Pranab | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 17: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) support to UPA Presidential candidate, Pranab Mukherjee has renewed its ties with the Congress. The PDP has 21 MLAs and total vote of 1512 votes. These votes are expected to play a vital role in ensuring election of Mukherjee as president of India. The support of PDP has struck an appropriate chord in the Congress party. It has renewed its ties with the Congress which may have a bearing on the politics of the state. Pranab Mukherjee, is expected to secure more than 92 per cent of the total votes (6264) from Jammu and Kashmir. Sources close to ruling coalition believe PDP,CPI (M) and three other independent MLAs he was likely to get more than 92 per cent of the tot al vote value from Jammu and Kashmir as all the 10 members in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabhafrom the state were going to poll in his favour. The Congress leaders called on Mufti Sayed's residence when Mukherjee was here. Mufti received them warmly and assured them of his support. According to political experts, it indicates that Congress is not in favour of snapping its ties with the PDP. Sources in Congress said since no party is expected to form the government on its own in 2014 elections, Congress has to keep its cards open. Maintaining good relations with the PDP is a necessity, they believe. |
