Mufti for evolving national consensus to solve Kashmir problem | 'Govt fails to provide basic amenities in remote areas' | | Early Times Report INSHAN (WARDWAN) July 17: Emphasizing upon the need of evolving national consensus to solve the Kashmir problem, patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that solution of this vexed problem was must for the economic growth, development and lasting peace in this region. He, however, said that this problem would be solved only through the democratic means. "There is no other option but to adopt democratic means to get this problem solved and to address all other issues", Mufti said while addressing an impressive public meeting in remotest Inshan area in Kishtwar district this afternoon. He maintained that dialogue was the only way to solve all problems peacefully. "Political parties of the country including the ruling UPA and other opposition groups have to realize that solution of Kashmir problem is must for the lasting peace in this region", he said and added that it was duty of all political parties to lend support to any fresh initiative to solve this problem. Referring to the historical steps taken by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2003 during his visit to Kashmir, Mufti said it had come against a grim and potentially disastrous scenario as the two nuclear powers were in eyeball to eyeball position following the attack on the Parliament. He said that announced made by Atal Behari Vajpayee on April 18, 2003 at Srinagar was one of the bold steps because he had extended hands of friendship towards Pakistan at that time. The PDP patron highlighted the historical role played by his party in restoring peace in this region. "Since its formation PDP has been advocating that dialogue is the only solution of all problem", he said, adding, "PDP has pioneered and implemented the peace and reconciliation process which yielded encouraging results". "Our party had convinced successive governments at Delhi to initiate some bold Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) to restore lasting peace in this region", he said. Expressing his anguish over lack of basic amenities in this belt, he regretted that developmental projects started during PDP led regime have been stalled. He pointed towards poor road connectivity in the area and regretted that aggressive developmental policies which were started in this belt in the year 2003 were not properly followed after formation of the present government headed by National Conference regime. General Secretary of PDP Thakur Balbir Singh, former Minister Peer Mohammad Hussain, Nizam-ud Din Khatana, Dr Sameer Koul, Ghulam Hassan Malik and Shaqir Saddique also addressed the meeting. Omar Malik, Abdul Wahid, Rashid Magray, Ghulam Rasool, Javid Bhat, Ashok Sen-ex-Director Education, Suresh Sharma, Ghulam Rasool Giri and others were prominent among those who were present on the occasion. In the meeting Raman Shan along with his supporters joined PDP. |
